Cricket at Purbrook
Purbrook Cricket Club (PCC) play at the picturesque ground of Purbrook Heath. In 2015, the club celebrated a 200th year anniversary of the first recorded cricket match at The Heath.
This is a fantastic achievement for a local cricket club, one of the oldest in Hampshire.
The club is very much a community-based facility with 3 adult teams and a thriving colt’s section from under 9 through to under 17 age groups.
Their 1st XI will play in the Hampshire Cricket League (HCL) Division 3B in the coming 2025 season, which has now been regionalised to reduce travelling and promote more local matches. Their 2nd XI will play in HCL Division 5G.
The Future of Purbrook Cricket Club
Purbrook CC have five colts’ teams in age groups; Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 for both boys and girls. For the forthcoming 2025 season, they are participating in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) initiative, ‘All Stars ‘, for children aged 5 to 8. Prescribed training sessions will be delivered across the UK.
These activities could be a child’s first introduction to cricket, and they will be delivered in a fun environment with emphasis on moving, running, being part of a group/team and generally being active. PCC actively encourage parents and/or carers to take part as well to create a complete community experience.
The club has excellent links within the local authority ‘Havant Borough Council‘ to identify options and recommendations to develop and improve the club. The Heath benefits from a recent cricket pavilion which was completed in 2001 and replaced a rather dilapidated timber club house. They have
a rather splendid first floor bar with outside terrace for elevated watching of the cricket action taking place on the playing surface below.
